The Buffalo Bills have signed another starting defensive lineman in Larry Ogunjobi
The Buffalo Bills have added another starting-caliber defensive lineman to their rotation, signing defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi per a report from Ian Rapoport.
Rap says it’s a one-year, $8.3 million deal with $8 million guaranteed, so it’s not one of those “up to” contracts, and he’s going to see all the cash. Ogunjobi was released by the Pittsburgh Steelers, who didn’t want to pay him $10.5 million, and he won’t count against Buffalo’s compensatory pick formula.
Ogunjobi turns 31 this June and has played in the NFL for eight years, starting 124 games for the Cleveland Browns, Cincinnati Bengals, and Pittsburgh Steelers. He has averaged four sacks and 50 tackles per season and been a solid piece up front in a black and blue division.
While he has played some 1-tech, it’s likely that Ogunjobi will platoon with Ed Oliver at 3-tech defensive tackle, which is also potentially an indictment on 2024 third-round pick DeWayne Carter. It’s also likely the Bills won’t be bringing back the duo of Quinton Jefferson and/or Jordan Phillips, but we could see one of them return.
The signing means Buffalo has five players on their defensive line making at least $8 million (Greg Rousseau, Ed Oliver, Joey Bosa, Daquan Jones, and now Ogunjobi) per season plus another at $7 million (Mike Hoecht) and one more at $6 million (A.J. Epenesa). That’s a significant investment in the trenches by general manager Brandon Beane.
Ogunjobi is the fourth addition this week alongside DE Joey Bosa, former Chargers receiver Josh Palmer, and former Rams defender Michael Hoecht. They’ve re-signed free agent RB Ty Johnson and fullback Reggie Gilliam and brought back running back Darrynton Evans. In addition, the Bills have been busy extending some of their current star players with new deals for quarterback Josh Allen, long snapper Reid Ferguson, defensive end Greg Rousseau, linebacker Terrel Bernard, and wide receiver Khalil Shakir.
