Newfoundland’s Funny Way of ‘Demanding’ a Treat Is Truly Impossible to Resist

For any pet parents that have successfully trained a pup to go outside, you’ve probably implemented the same system I have with my two dogs. They go out, do their business, and when it’s time to come inside, you offer a treat. Over time, they learn that going out results in a yummy reward… usually.

Homer the Newfoundland just learned that he’s not getting a treat for coming back inside, and he’s not happy about it one bit.

As Mom said in the funny clip, if the sliding door’s been open, leaving the giant Newfie to come and go as he pleases, no treats are involved. Homer doesn’t understand it’s not the same as a closed door situation and he’s going to give her a piece of his mind!

I can relate to this on a deep, emotional level. My senior rescue expects a treat every time he goes out and back in, too, and I cave 100% of the time. Why do they have to be so darn cute?

Homer’s infamous sass has been enthralling his 259k TikTok followers for awhile now, so this little protest isn’t a surprise. It is entertaining, though!

“Homer thought he found a loophole,” one person commented. “I demand justice for Homer!” another joked. Another suggested “all the treats for Homer on his terms,” and I’m sure the Newfie would be on board with that!

If you’re as invested in the treat saga as I am, you’ll be relieved to know that after plenty of fans demanding justice for the “house bear,” Mom gave in.

Once the weather turned and the sliding door remained closed, Homer was back in business with his inside treat.

Watch to see the pure satisfaction that the funny Newfoundland’s master plan to get the internet on his side actually worked.

I don’t know about you, but I’ll sleep much better knowing Homer got Mom to pay the treat tax this time around. In fact, give him the whole bag. He’s earned it.
