Shedding season is here. In preparation for the warm summer months, animals everywhere are shedding massive amounts of fur! Usually, this is something they can do just fine on their own. Their bodies are built for it!
Of course, sometimes it doesn’t hurt to have a little bit of help from a friend! That’s why one barn cat recently opened up a “deshedding business” for the horses she lives with, and needless to say, it was a smashing success.
Hannah Howe is so lucky this cat is willing to help her. Deshedding all these horses on her own would be an almost impossible task!
Hannah Howe has several horses, and they’re all shedding right now. Summer is fast-approaching and a thin coat is the best way to keep cool! It’s falling out in clumps; the barn is covered in horse hair. Maybe next, this sweet barn cat will help out with the farm’s cows!
This is one patient horse! If you’ve ever had a cat knead you with their paws, you know that it borders on downright painful. The fact that the cat was able to mount the horse (with more grace than most humans) and give him a massage is hilarious.

Once the kitty is done with her preliminary deshedding rubdown, her mom will go in with an actual deshedding brush to get the rest of the hair later. Though her paws are a surprisingly effective tool, they’re too little to get it all!
Deshedding your horse is incredibly important: if you don’t help it along, the coat may make them itchy. Therefore, they’ll be irritable, which can be dangerous. Luckily, this sweet horse has all hands (and paws) on deck to help him along!
