Kelly Clarkson Shares ‘Cruel’ Dilemma That’s So Relatable to Working Moms
Kelly Clarkson may be the original “American Idol” winner and a successful singer and talk show host, but one of her pet peeves about schools is so relatable. Clarkson shared how the timing of school events doesn’t always work with her very busy schedule.
Kelly Clarkson Slammed Schools for Scheduling Events During Work Hours
During the March 27 episode of the “Not Gonna Lie with Kylie Kelce” podcast, the two chatted a bit about parenthood. Clarkson revealed that she has a big problem with how schools sometimes schedule the kids’ events during work hours.
In a clip posted on the “Not Gonna Lie” Instagram account, Clarkson noted, “I’m not gonna lie, I don’t know when the school systems thought it would be a good plan for families and their emotional stability to start having performances at 10 a.m. during the week.”
She continued, “This just in — a lot of us work. And, [they’re] surprising you with it, like not giving you an advance, so you can at least tell your work, ‘Hey, I’m gonna need this morning off. A lot of jobs wouldn’t let you do that anyway, but even if you’re like the boss and you would have that control, our kids don’t understand and we just look like [expletive] when we’re not there.”
The singer added, “And, then they go, ‘Why was this mom there?’ And, then you have to say, ‘Because that kid got a better mom.’”
Kelly Clarkson Called the Situation ‘Cruel’
She continued, “Like your daughter has a performance, cool … I get to be the [expletive] that misses it because you decided that it would be a real opportune moment at 10 a.m. on a Thursday when we’re out here hustling.”
“The Kelly Clarkson Show” host noted, “And then [my daughter] is like, ‘Why weren’t you there? This person’s mommy was there.’ And I was like, ‘Congratulations to her because she made different decisions that led to her being able to be there on a Thursday at 10 a.m.’”
Clarkson noted, “That is cruel because we look like [expletive].”
While many parents understand Clarkson’s gripe, not everyone in the Instagram post’s comments agreed. “I understand the point, but it’s also important to note that teachers don’t get paid to work evenings,” one person noted.
