How to Prevent & Treat Acne Scars for Brighter Skin!

not all acne is created equal and that is a very important thing for you to understand but if you’re somebody who’s struggling with acne right now and you’re suffering from any sort of discoloration Mark residual spot and it’s having a psychological impact on you this video is for you because what we’re going to talk about today is how to get ahead if you’re breaking out with acne to minimize any long-term discoloration hyperpigmentation or even scarring because ultimately an even skin tone tone is the gold standard that

you’re looking for if you’re looking to age correctly and whenever you have any sort of blotchiness it can take away from you looking youthful restful and happy a happy skin equals a happy life who the hell am I I’m Dr Shireen Idris a board certified dermatologist and we do this every Saturday at 10: a.m. so if you haven’t subscribed subscribe below like this video let me know what you want to learn about next week but let’s jump in the goal with acne is to always treat the acne in a sense that it never

comes back again so you’re trying to pre prent future breakouts the goal with acne is not to be reactive but sometimes we have to be reactive with the spots that we have on our face I also want to just quickly say that if you have really bad acne that’s leaving a lot of textural scars and it’s really inflamed don’t hesitate to go and see a dermatologist to get it treated yes I’m all about body positivity and medical condition positivity and everything but acne is a medical condition that ultimately can get treated so to

minimize any long-term psycholog iCal impact that you may get from acne scarring go in and find yourself a dermatologist and get it treated before it gets worst so tip number one when you have a blemish already on your face um you guys cannot see this she’s really tiny um so I don’t want it like I don’t need the hate but she’s small she was bigger here’s what you need to be doing you do not pick at that blemish at all and what I did to get this guy really small and I’m kicking myself in the butt

that I didn’t record myself cuz it’s not instinctual to just keep recording myself when I’m doing stuff is to put a hydroc coloid patch but not all hydrochlorid patches are created equal and not all blemishes are created equal number one you want a blemish that is coming to a head that is really juicy and that is really singular in nature and the best time to use a hydrocolloid patch is to use it after a warm shower when it’s coming to a head so over the past week I was showering at night and I

would put this patch on my face so that it would last 12 hours on my face ideally it’s really like 5 and a half if I’m telling you the truth it helps to suck it out when a blemish is flat and deep or a pimple is flat and deep you’re never going to get the gunk out completely with a hydrocolloid patch it just doesn’t work that way that is first and foremost examples of hydrocolloid patches that I like are these very simple natural ones these are by Neutrogena they’re stubborn acne patches these are ones by Mighty patch do not be

fooled by the difference here these are invisible these are the original these are just slightly thicker these are a little bit thinner ultimately they work the same way um and so I will show you guys the difference in terms of how they look but they’re not different in terms of what they offer one is just a little bit thinner which is the invisible one versus The Invisible original pretty much identical okay so those are the ones by mighty patch starface has a bunch that are coming cute stars and shapes um but

those are basic hydrocol patches now when we’re looking at hydroch cholid patches with actives we have to be a little bit careful because some of them are irritating so I’m going to start first with the ones I don’t like and I’m going to end it with the type that I do like so I do not like the ones with darts whenever I see micro darts and somebody who’s putting it on an inflamed pimple or blemish even though the idea is nice that yes it’s going to help treat dark spots especially if it does have any sort of active ingredient in it

great however the darts itself can be extremely irritating and can worsen the marks so not something that I love especially if you’re sensitive if it has active ingredients that can be irritating like salicylic acid again not something that I love these are by starface and they have Sal acid putting Sal acid in close contact and closed contact with a patch or a very long period of time can be irritating to your skin and can be drying so it’s not necessarily my favorite however ingredients that I like in a format that

I love are brightening patches patches that can brighten and even out the tone and help to minimize any residual Brown discoloration from a pimple these are by py oxal these ones are awesome they have tranexamic acid niacinamide and vitamin C but what I do not like about them and I will show you guys and they actually put it in the back this is the actual size of the patch it’s huge it’s not exactly fun or elegant so kind of a Miss in terms of the shape but they can help minimize any discoloration or brown

spots but the size is a miss so those are where I go in terms of patches with actives look for patches that are basic nice hydrocol patches with actives that are not going to burn your skin or irritate your skin tip number two when you have a little pimple or something that is popping on your face you want to nip it in the bud before it comes out and so what I like to do to minimize acne scarring is I will use for example my major fade flash mask by Dr Idris as a spot treatment this is a mask intended

to be used all over the face but I will put it on the residual brown spot left behind almost every night until it’s gone not when it’s a juicy thick Rich pimple I’ll use the hydrocolloid patch but once it leaves a brown spot or a little bit of a red mark I will use this on that red mark as it is flat or that brown spot as it is flat for three three four five nights in a row until it disappears it works beautifully overnight and then I wash it off in the morning tip number three how your cleansing is going to dictate how you’re

breaking out are you washing your face correctly are you overwashing your face I tell a lot of people to try to just skip the cleanser in the morning and just use water because a lot of times they over cleanse and they get oilier and they’re they keep breaking out and they’re in this Perpetual cycle but if you do not want to do that I understand so you kind of have to figure out is the cleanser that you’re using too harsh for your skin and one way you could tell is after washing your face with a cleanser

wait like 10 to 15 20 minutes see how your skin feels if it feels squeaky clean and tight you’re probably over stripping your skin and you’re probably making yourself oilier in the process the type of cleanser also matters in terms of actives but buying a cleanser with an active just to go sh and wash it off is useless you want to get FaceTime with your cleanser and you you want your skin to get FaceTime with the cleanser so you want to be using the cleanser and letting it sit on your face anywhere from 30 seconds to a

minute it don’t actually tell you fully how long to leave it on your skin for example this is a cleanser with salicylic acid which is a beautiful cleanser if you’re oily prone but if you don’t let it sit on your skin you’re washing the Sal acid down the drain their directions are not ideal apply morning and evening on skin previously moistened with water water gently massage rinse thoroughly they don’t tell you how long for and people will usually leave it on for like 3 seconds so let it stay for a good 30 seconds to a minute

before you wash it off um so that’s great for oily skin if you have acne and you’re really inflamed and you have a lot of like buildup ventil peroxide is awesome I like to keep it in the shower because it does bleach your towels and I do I tell patients to use it anytime from like three to four times a week during the week and if you’re somebody who has rosacea or you have a lot of ious filaments then sulfur is a great um cleanser to also use as a mask let it sit for a minute or two and then wash it

off get the face time that you need with your skin and make sure that you try to skip the morning cleanser as well the last tip I’m going to have about cleansing before I jump into tip number four is get yourself a baby face towel for every night of the week I swear this makes a huge difference I have seven of them these are six cuz I just used one and I toss it at the end of the week in the bin and I just come back once a week with fresh towels it makes a difference especially if you’re somebody who has

who wears makeup who has buildup who’s living in a city and you’re trying to get rid of all that crud like you don’t want to use your underwear two nights in a row after you take a shower you don’t reuse an old underwear after you wash your face don’t reuse an old towel for your face so treat your face better than you would treat down there I’m assuming you change your underwear every time you shower okay tip number four we’re not going to get into that cuz I don’t want to fully know all right we want two

serums and the two main serums that we’re talking about if you’re breaking out are either salicylic acid or retinol now I mentioned this as a salicylic acid cleanser I prefer salicylic acid in the form of a serum here in front of me I have a toner type salicylic acid this is by Paula Choice their 2% BHA Dermalogica also has their Acne Clearing Serum at 2% so that is a nice um in it’s a nice serum to
or even just the sunscreen in the morning because you don’t want to get too sensitive to the sun um number two is a retinol this is Ula henriksson this is their prograde 0.3% Retinol Serum a retinol is great especially if you have blackheads or white heads to minimize that buildup and to clear the breakouts in that scent so they don’t keep coming back and then tip number five is get yourself a moisturizer that can double duty itself do two in one and you because we’re trying to minimize any discoloration hyperpigmentation left

behind you want to find yourself something with vitamin C now most vitamin C’s on the market come in the form of a serum this is a vitamin C by me in the form of a moisturizer the reason I like it for people who have acne prone skin to minimize this coloration is that it is a gel moisturizer so it is very very very lightweight it’s not going to be overpowering but it’s still going to be hydrating and you can use this vitamin C moisturizer up to twice a day it’s not going to be feeling like it’s sitting on

your face so that is something that I recommend to minimize any post-inflammatory pigment or redness or discoloration and here’s a sixth tip just wear the damn sunscreen even though you’re breaking out and you’re scared that the sunscreen might be causing you to break out you got to kiss many frogs to figure out what works for you but when you wear the sunscreen and you’re breaking out you’re minimizing the Sun from hitting your inflammation and you’re minimizing the darkness and the discoloration that it’s going to leave

behind a sunscreen that I’ve recently this cover that I love is this one by the beauty of joa it is their daily tinted fluid sunscreen SPF 40 it’s a mineral sunscreen it’s very lightweight it does have a little bit of an oily slight residue I’m wearing it today but I don’t think you’re going to feel like it’s heavy or it’s breaking you out at all super group also has their protect tint daily SPF 50 which is also another zinc oxide sunscreen this one is a zinc oxide sunscreen they’re both mineral

sunscreens but there are some physical some uh chemicals sunscreens not that they’re worse at all I love chemical sunscreens that work beautifully as well Laura merer is an SPF of um 25 so it’s just light for everyday use it’s a tinted one it is a beautiful one that can melt into your skin just make everything disappear this is one by allies of skin it is the uh SPF 50 invisible sunscreen gel which has no tint to it that also works very beautifully you don’t have to stick to a mineral sunscreen is my point

it voila that’s basically quick tips on how to nip it and how to be reactive and how to minimize any discoloration other quick tips just have because I’m going to just throw these out there rapid fire style you can change your pillowcase too your pillowcase is not going to add to your acne in the sense that it’s going to make it so much worse but if we’re in this mindset of just kind of good hygiene Etc flip the pillowcase every night and then change it twice a week you are eating a bad diet that is

definitely going to contribute processed foods high in sugar cakes you name it you probably want to avoid it’s probably not going to be helpful towards you so diet does play a role but happiness plays a bigger role so find that happy medium everything in moderation drink a lot of water it’s not going to clear your acne but water can help maintain quality skin and obviously sleep do not underestimate the power of sleep you may get away with it in your 20s maybe even in your 30s but as you approach your 40s

hello me sleep does contribute much more to the quality of your skin and your breakouts and stress so anyway I hope this video was helpful I will see you guys next week and have a beautiful Saturday
