A Journey into the Draft Horse World

Michelle’s journey into the draft horse world began in 2009 when she was invited to photograph her first draft horse show. Despite her initial hesitation and shyness, she quickly discovered a unique talent for capturing the profound bond between horses and their handlers. Her photographs are not just images; they are emotive stories that bring to life the spirit and elegance of these magnificent animals.

Overcoming Challenges

Michelle’s story is one of resilience and passion. In 2023, she was honored with the “Impact Award” by the North American Six-Horse Hitch Classic Series, making her only the second recipient of this prestigious recognition. This award is a testament to her tireless dedication to the draft horse industry, even in the face of severe challenges.

After a botched cataract surgery left her nearly blind, Michelle made the difficult decision to retire from photography. However, the draft horse community, led by friends like Victoria McCullough of Chesapeake Clydesdales, rallied to support her. Their efforts helped restore her vision, allowing Michelle to continue her work. As she puts it, “My eyes aren’t perfect, but since I’ve always shot from the heart, I’ll continue to pester the industry I love so well.”

Words of Wisdom

Reflecting on her journey, Michelle often quotes Jack Parnell: “During your journey, there will be events that you don’t understand but they are all very important and necessary. They mold us into the person that we will become. Whether you think it good or bad, have faith! Our Great Creator is using these events to very carefully weave the delicate fabric of your life and character.”
